Yvanna Vien Tica is a senior at Yale University who studies sociology with a concentration in Inequality, Race, and Society. Drawing on qualitative methods, her sociology thesis and Education Studies capstone jointly explore Filipino teacher migration to the US, tracing how visas, postcolonial education systems, and moralized narratives shape aspirations and identities among migrant education workers. Her sociological work intersects with her commitments as a poet: Yvanna's writing has been published in over 40 literary magazines across the US and UK — including POETRY, TriQuarterly, Prairie Schooner — and has been performed at the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference and the 2023 Peace Symposium in New York. In her free time, she can be found playing card games with friends or thanking God for another day.
