La Tanya Jenifor-Sublett, affectionately known as “Tan,” is a public speaker, organizer, and advocate committed to trauma-informed, healing-centered community building and advancing leadership among justice-impacted individuals. She currently serves as Director of Programs and Supportive Services at the Chicago Torture Justice Center, where she supports women impacted by incarceration and state violence. A survivor of police torture who spent 21 years incarcerated, La Tanya earned two bachelor’s degrees during her time inside and now uses her lived experience to inform her advocacy, public speaking, and program development. She is a proud member of the Movements Against Mass Incarceration Oral History Team. La Tanya is also an active member of the National Black Women’s Justice Institute, contributes to national efforts to transform policing and incarceration, and regularly speaks at schools, universities, and community spaces while continuing to build pathways for reentry, healing, and collective liberation, and currently facilitates a healing circle for women at Logan Correctional Center.
